The twenties were called "the roaring 20-ies" because they were a time when life was exciting and fun People remember the Gangsters - members of criminal goups who carried guns and wore very good clothes.
The 30s were the years of the Great Depression. The economies of Europe, the US and other countries failed. Millions of people lost their jobs,
The forties were the years of the World War II. Many men went abroad to fight. The economy of most European countires was ruined.
During the 50s the economy of most European countires improved gradually. People had hopes for the future. They listened to rock'n'roll music, played by musicians like Elvis Presley.
The 60s were a time of great social change - of freedom, enjoyment and progress. Young people developed new values and ideas. The music and clothes also expressed their new way of thinking. This was the "Beatles" generation.
The seventies were time of bad style. People wore platform shoes and flares. The most popular music was "disco"
In the 80s people were mostly concerned about making money and to be successful. President Gorbachev brought great political change to the Soviet Union. The cold war was over.
The "caring, sharing 90s" were a time when people became more concerned about the other people and the environment. The popular music and culture was grunge, pop, dance, electronic music. Teenagers went to clubs or rave parties.
